Pets London v Paris......
« on: August 05, 2013, 07:30:29 PM »
After having spent most of today online and on the phone getting information about getting my pets from here to there, here is some basic info (& I hope I read my scribbled notes correctly :P) for anyone else flying pets over, this will give you a rough idea of cost, etc...

Flying 2 pets, a 5 pound cat (half persian/snubnose breed) & a 6 pound dog in manifest cargo as required, from NY (JFK to London (LHR)

Delta

$635 (cargo fee)  + $750 (UK arrival fees for first pet to be paid at LHR) +$20 (for any amount of additional pets) Total= $1405

Health Certificate dated up to 10 days prior to flight required in addition
to the UK Defra paperwork

Pets can be booked in Cargo up to 13 days prior to flight reservation.

Snubnose pets cannot fly if it is over 75 degrees

No minimum required size for kennel, but pet must be able to stand/sit/turn around

Virgin

$765 (cargo fee) + 343 pounds ($520) (arrivals fee for both pets to be paid at LHR) Total=$1285

Health Certificate dated up to 10 days prior to flight required in addition
to the UK Defra paperwork

If a pet is part snubnose breed, email photo and it will be up to Virgin's discretion to accept the pet or not.

Can be booked at anytime

Only one flight per day that accepts pets from JFK (VF46)  & Newark (VF002)

No minimum required size for kennel, but pet must be able to stand, sit, turn around

British Airways

Total $1400 including LHR arrival fees paid upfront at cargo area for both animals

#200 minimum size crate required, even for toy/small breeds

Flying both pets from NYC to Paris I have only checked with Delta so far...

Delta, KLM, AirFrance

Pets can fly as excess baggage, at a cost of $200 per pet.

Snubnose pet cannot fly as excess baggage, but can be brought as carry on in either hard sided or soft sided carrier, maximum dimensions, 9 x 14 x22 inches (must fit under seat) so I would have to carry on the cat in a carrier

Asked if there were arrival/customs fees at CDG airport in Paris, according to Delta, there are none?? Must look further into that to make sure.....

+ cost of ferry or eurotunnel, approximately $130 and fuel/food  :)

Total approximate cost using Delta to fly both pets to Paris, $330 + DH's fuel/food to drive from London to Paris and back  ;)

And of course vet fees, cost of crates, my flight, miscellaneous $$$$$ all have to be factored in to get the actual total costs of moving us all over to London  :D
