I got a job! :)

It's just a two week contract, but I'm really excited about it. 

I'll be working at the Australian High Commission in London helping with the Australian Federal Elections.    I've applied for a few jobs there before and have been turned down, so maybe this will get my foot in the door for future jobs. 

I think I'm most excited about the fact that I will have UK work experience to put on my CV now.    I'm totally not even thinking of the money.    Although that is a plus. 

It's so draining to look for work and constantly be turned down, but I luckily spotted this one last week, filled out the short application in about half an hour (was nearly late for lunch with DH because I was so eager to get my application in) and a week later, I was offered the job.    Probably the easiest job I've applied for.    A one page application, no interview.... easy peasy. 

I know after the two week contract I'll go back to looking for permanent work, but right now, 2 weeks is awesome!    Kind of like a holiday from job searching. 

Good luck to those of you applying for jobs!  I'll be right back with you in a few weeks.... with a bit more energy in my application, hopefully.    It's soooooo exhausting and frustrating.... I know. 

What's your expertise/field? We've got a couple events management/coordination positions open at my company, for people with experience, if that's the sort of thing you've been doing/will be doing with the Aussies.

Feel sooooo relieved now.... 9 months is long time for constant rejection.    At some point you should just be given  a job.  Like for every 50 applications you submit, you get one temporary contract.    So stressful and draining.  

Didn't help that I'd spent two (awesome) years travelling in Europe.... which left a huge gap in my CV... and I just moved to the UK a year ago but wasn't able to work until I had FLR in December so I've been looking for work in the UK without any UK work experience.... like a terrbily frustrating catch-22.

I'm going to use these few weeks as a power up.... like in a video game where coins are worth double.    It's easier finding work if you've already got a job, right.    My CV definitely looks better since I'm currently employed!    I just need to keep the ball rolling and get some momentum to a full-time position! 

Squee!     Wednesday is coming soon!  It's just an afternoon training session, but to me it feels like the back-to-school open house day when you've moved to a new school.... you get to meet your teachers, see your classrooms, meet some of your classmates...     Nervous excitement! 

OH!  I have to find a good back-to-schoolwork outfit!
