Eurostar - any way to book return?

It has been a while since I have done this, but the Eurostar website (http://www.eurostar.com/uk-en) seems to only allow booking separate tickets with no real 'return' option. I was hoping to get a bit of a break on the price. Am I not doing something right?

I think the tickets are all priced separately based on the date and time of each train, so you can purchase them as a return but they're priced individually.  Sort of like a mix-and-match rather than a preset combination like flights.    Of course, I could be doing something wrong, but I've never seen them sold together as an airline-like return ticket where it's cheaper than two one-ways.

Yeah, it's like when you book flights through easyjet or one of the other budget airlines - the prices they quote are single journeys only, so you can pick and choose which times you want.

Yes. But the odd thing is is that I am still slightly 'tricked' by prices on offer. Just a while back I noticed an offer of £24 to Budapest - Easyjet/Ryan Air/something. And I think to myself that I have a day off coming up and why not throw a couple of Ginsters in a backpack, pop over, see the Cathedral or something and pop back in time for dinner.

But there's the bus to the train station, the train to Stanstead, transport on the other end from the airport to the cool part of Budapest and the reverse all the way home. The return leg of the flight was £49 for some reason.

So probably £200 total. My wife would throw her shoe at me.

I have an idea for a series of short documentaries called "Day Trips" with each episode doing just this. I don't have the personality myself to pull off being the subject - so I would run the camera, and I think that success would depend - much like Top Gear - on wacky players. So maybe an older guy who is trying to quit smoking teamed with a laid-back Rastafarian. Or a couple in the middle of a nasty divorce. Maybe there would be a task they had to complete - each would have a tambourine and would busk in the village square to see who got the most tips.

This reminds me of The Amazing Race (a reality show rather than a documentary)- people apply as teams of two and travel around the world solving clues and completing tasks to get to destinations.    Pretty cool idea, but they move so fast through each location, they don't seem to really take it in.

Well that is it. Why is everything so task driven now? Always a contest of sorts. Is it not enough to climb K2 without having a bake-off at camp 3.

Edited to add: Did you see that Eurostar is currently offering £59 returns? The number of tickets is limited and only to Brussels or Paris, so I'm not sure how many remain. But it does significantly cut down on costs to/from airports as at least in Brussels it was quite easy to get around.

I subscribed to their promotional offers after my first Eurostar experience last July, as I quite enjoyed my trip.  I couldn't quite afford the offer this time around due to a crazy summer and recent move, but I plan on going again next it's having a promotion.

It was probably RyanAir. They're notorious for saying they fly to X destination, but the airport they fly into is actually a 3 hour bus journey from X destination.

My boyfriend and his pal did this once.  Flew to Köln, had a few biers and a plate of gulasch, then flew home.
