I was trying to find a couple of answers to my questions, but all the NI number threads I found seemed several years old. Hopefully there are some more recent experiences out there.
I just arrived back in the UK on my ILE visa. When I first got my visa in 2011, I came over here to live, but it was only a few short months before hubby and I decided to return back to the US. During that time, I didn't apply for a NI number. We decided to return a few months ago, after my OH was offered a job back here in the UK.
My US company wants to keep on and have me working remotely for them. I've already got a contract signed with a contracting company and have been setup with an umbrella company. So I think all of legalities of continuing to work for my current company back in the US have been satisfied, except for my NI number.
I called the JobCentre today, and the guy sounded confused by my ILE status and the fact that it had an expiration date on the visa, even though my status is not expired (he put me on hold a couple of times for several minutes each time while he conferred with someone). When he came back on the line, I was expecting him to simply send me an application in the mail to fill out and return, but instead the guy set up an interview for me at an Edinburgh office. Is that normal routine?
I plan on bringing with me to the appointment the following:
1) Expired passport with ILE visa, and current passport
2) Scottish Gas letter with my name and address on it.
3) My contract with the contracting company and the umbrella company
4) My current resume/CV
5) My rental/lease agreement
Is there anything else I should bring with me?
TIA!
