Female GP in Islington?

Hi Everyone,

I wanting to register with a GP in Islington, preferably female, but am having trouble figuring out which ones are actually any good.  Does anyone have any recommendations?

I've never actually been seen by my GP, but each practice has its own catchment area, so it'd be useful to check which practices you're able to register with.

Check here using your postcode: Find GP services  Each practice comes up with a user rating, patient survey scores, whether they accept online bookings/prescriptions, and if they're accepting new patients. 

Like I said, I've only been to my GP to register (Miller Practice).  I did ring to make an appointment, and they were able to fit me in at a convenient time within the week, and notified me via text to confirm (obviously this depends on your preferences, which you select upon registration). Unfortunately I had to cancel (also by text), as I required urgent specialist treatment.

It's also worth noting that for some of your appointments, you might see a nurse (ie at my practice I actually see nurses most of the time)

I'm not in Islington but I recommend choosing a practice that allows you to book/cancel appointments and request repeat prescriptions online. Not all surgeries offer this but it is really worth it if you can find one.

Also, you may just want to choose one and see how you get on. You can change as many times as you like. Good luck!

When I first moved to London, my first thought was to register with a GP, which I did. It took about a week to register and another 2 weeks to be seen by a GP for a general check-up. Later on I've learned that private clinics are more efficient and you don't need to register. You can just walk in and get checked. Whenever I don't manage to see a GP next day, I just go to the private clinic. Sometimes is needed. You don't want to wait for a week to be seen when you are not feeling well. Your condition could get worse. The other good thing about private clinics is that you have the results same day or next day.

Ohhh...and I forgot to mention! They are located in central London and you can choose if you want to see a female or male doctor.

Lucy, I'm glad that has worked out for you but I didn't have to wait to register with my GP, nor have I ever had an issue being seen the same day when I was really unwell. There are plenty of NHS surgeries doing a good job and even if you don't find one on the first go, they ARE out there. 

If you need urgent care, you can always go to A&E or a walk in clinic - both NHS. :-) I've always been seen within a week (or on the day if I was able to take a cancellation). I think my practice takes walk-ins only one morning each week. :-)

I'd check the hours of your practice - if you'll be working, it's handy to not need to take a day off for an appointment. :-)
