Moving from MA to Essex this Summer
« on: January 03, 2014, 07:06:48 PM »
Hello, all! Just found this community and I'm excited to join! Looks like a great place. Here's a little about myself:

I'm a 28 year old lass from Massachusetts, engaged to an English bloke who works as an EMT for the NHS. We are to be married June 20th this year (ceremony will be in MA), and shortly following I will move to Essex, England to be with him. We're both overjoyed at the thought of finally living together after a year of expensive flights back and forth for both of us! Of course, looming over our excitement is that ever-present anxiety of sorting out all my legal crap (name change, new passport and driver's license, and most of all the VISA!).

I look forward to finding some good advice here, and hopefully some good friends, too!  ;D

Hiya
Welcome to the forum.. I'm another Masshole ;) born n bred, lived most of my life in Medfield until after High School, then was living in Medway before moving here to Scotland in 1999. My parents are still in the Bellingham/Franklin area and lots of my relatives are scattered on the Cape in Sandwich/Osterville/Centerville areas..
Been here ever since.. worked my way up the immigration ladder.. originally came over on the old work permt... and have had dual citizenship for many years now. :)..
Love having the best of both worlds.. Feel free to ask away .. Nice to see another from Mass here..
Again Welcome,
Kay

Welcome, jaided.  Yup, there are a few New Englanders on here.

Bet you'll be glad to say goodbye to the Nor'easters  ;)  I'm not missing them at all.

Thanks, guys! I'm glad there are some other Massholes out that way! :D

Kay: I have family near Franklin as well (Norfolk), and on the Cape, too! I myself am from Attleboro.

BostonDiner: I actually don't mind the snow that much. :P The only weather that truly bugs me over here is the occasional deep cold; it's been hovering between -8° and 20°F for the past two days here!

I sometimes suspect it's around 20F inside our house here!  Snow is nice if you don't have to go out in it.  What I do miss are those beautiful clear days just after the snowfall.  When it gets mushy and re-freezes, not so much.

Welcome from another New Englander!  :)

I lived in Holbrook, Mass until I moved to Shropshire almost 2 years ago. I hope you find UKY useful!

Yeah, I suppose I tend to look past the inconvenience of snow because I enjoy the beauty and calm of it so much. And getting "snowed in" is fun when you're with the right people (and beverages)! ;) Agreed, though - I certainly don't enjoy when it turns to that muddy slush mix!

Hi! Hope you made the move successfully over the summer. I'm in Essex and have grown up in the UK, but in love with a guy from the US. He's visiting soon so as you can imagine, I'm very excited! I'm near Chelmsford BTW
Edit: Essex as opposed to MA where I believe there's also a Chelmsford!

Hi, Sushiewushie! My move hasn't happened yet; the plan is to move this August! My fiancé is in the Harlow area, so maybe once I'm settled we could meet up and have a chat! Have a lovely time with your man, I know how precious each visit can be.  :)

Haha I've been to 'Saaaff-End! ;D The pier is pretty cool!

We'll all have to throw an American shindig in Essex!

Did your move go successfully? We are looking to apply for a Fiance visa and need a lawyer to help as it's so hectic and we are both terrible at filling in official forms.

The whole process of applying for the visa took a lot longer than expected. Mostly due to various places taking weeks and weeks to send us statements and official copies of this or that. My application is just arriving in Sheffield today! I applied with priority service, so I hope to move in a month or so. Seems that's how long they are taking to process priority applications these days. :\
