[hopefully] PA to Birmingham :)
« on: March 30, 2014, 08:52:27 PM »
Hi everyone!

I'm from a small town here in PA and I have my heart set on getting my PhD from the Univ of Birmingham. I've worked with kids on the Autism Spectrum for the last 5 years and I'm really impressed with the Autism research center over at the Univ. of Birmingham. I would love to be accepted to this university!

I'm concerned about funding though. It seems like the studentships are only for UK/EU residents so I have no idea how I would survive financially. Does anyone out there have any experience with this process?

I'm finishing up my MS in school psychology, so I'll be starting my application this summer! *fingers crossed*

I'm assuming you can get US federal funding for a PhD. If so, as long as the UK university has a FAFSA code, then you can just get regular old  US student loans.   Also, contact the Uni's international dept and ask about finding. They may have some more ideas for you.

Awesome idea to contact their international dept! I'm hoping to avoid more student loans, so if they give any kind of funding that would be great!

Thanks!

Hello!!

I am from DeLand, Florida originally - have lived in Birmingham these past 12 years, and I work in a primary school as a Pastoral Manager, Music Teacher and Forest School Leader -

I also play softball, and we are recruiting for our birmingham bobcats.  I don't suppose there is any chance you'd want to play?

Quite a few american expats on our team -

You can contact the department, but legally my Uni isn't allowed to offer funding to international studies for quite a few programmes.
