I'm willing to bet there's no School Disco in the US.

We used to have dances at school and at the local YMCA, but it was never called a disco.  At that time, disco was a very naff word.  It was simply called a dance.

Same with me!

I've never been to a nightclub here, I've seen the kids that go hanging out outside.  I don't think I will ever go for just that reason!  A bunch of 16 year old puking in the gutter.  Such fun, good times :P

I didn't mean dances at actual schools, I meant the club schooldisco.com :)

Clubs in New York City and London tend to be similar, or at least they were about 10-15 years ago (I'm really showing my age now!). I'm not so sure how clubs in other parts of the UK would compare to ones in other parts of the US.

Hey pcb, you ever go to limelight back then?  I went once and it was unreal!  A gingerale in 1990 cost me $7!!!!!  I can imagine London nightclubs being like it!!!

Stacey-- good ol' Limelight is now "Avalon."  ;)

Clubs in the US and UK are similar as alot of them are "meat" markets. Alot of groups of guys and gals going out to have fun and flirt with other people.

Dress is different all over the US at clubs; let alone compared to the UK. When I lived in Orlando, FL people tended to dress alot more casual at the clubs then here in NY where its 'dress to impress.'

The clubs I went to in Cheltenham were not to my liking. It's a large student town so I felt like I should be walking around the night club with a cane at 26 years of age. A definite 'meat' market club aura that I am not into. The clubs in London and Birmingham were a bit more to my liking as they were bigger and you could have more privacy to yourself {whereas the clubs in Cheltenham were so small that you saw the same 300 people or whatever for 5 hours long.}

Music obviously differs from club to club all over the world and that is the clientele it would attract.

i've been to the limelight here in london.  7 bucks for a soda sounds familiar.

i haven't been clubbing in a while, and the ones i've been too were pretty mild.  but were there cages hanging from the ceiling and loads of people dancing about everywhere?

you bet there were.  ;)

Clubs in London are exciting for the first few times..i still am a serious clubber in that i love to dance..there is really no scene in london...other than people getting whacked out of their brains on drugs or alcohol . The purpose of going out for most clubbers in london is not to socialize or meet people..by in large its to get as s**t-faced as possible  and then go home . Everyone knows you dont meet people anymore in clubs...its just a place to get wasted.

Secondly you will find very, very few girls in any of the big club venues..( clubs im talking about are places like fridge/turnmills/churh/heaven etc) infact, if youve never been to most of these places before..you will almost assume its a gay club because there are so few girls .

I am pretty disappointed with the club life in london..that was one of the reasons i moved here...nightlife and for the entertainment value of the city.

Zufan, have you tried other kinds of clubs -  smaller places or a different kind of music? Casino Royale at Barfly in Camden is really good, so is International Hi Fi at the Garage in Islington. Don't expect to hear any "doof doof" though.

Hey again Britwife...

Thanks for those suggestions.

Te-hehe yea thats the catch...i am into electronic music (mainly trance and progressive house) but it seems i will have to venture into other genres of music in order to socialize with people who are more mature and a bit more secure with themselves.

I actually live in east london so islington would not be too far away...i will have to look into what type music they are playing there...but yea i definitley will have to venture into mainstream music .
