efile 4868 extension with foreign address?
« on: April 04, 2014, 05:22:41 PM »
I tried to E-file this yesterday on the freefile fillable forms website, as I moved here in September last year and won't be able to claim my exemption for my work over here before the tax deadline.

However, I got my email today that my submission was rejected because of the following reason:

Issue      : Business Rule X0000-005 - The XML data has failed schema validation. cvc-complex-type.2.4.b.  The content of element 'USAddress' is not complete. One of '{"http://www.irs.gov/efile":State}' is expected.

The following information may help you determine the form at issue:
Field/Xpath: /efile:Return[1]/efile:ReturnHeader[1]/efile:Filer[1]/efile:USAddress[1]/efile:City[1]

So I am guessing it is because I couldn't put a State or Zip code in since I don't have a U.S. address and there is no option in the drop down box for not applicable.

Has anyone been able to e-file this successfully or must I mail it in?

Sign up for EFTPS - then make an extension payment for at least $1 (which you get back when you file). This automatically gets you the extension, according to the Form 4868 instructions. Never had any problems.
