1040 Tax Help with income from one-off freelance gig
« on: May 18, 2014, 07:01:44 PM »
Hi everyone,

I've been living in the UK for 3 years now and am getting ready to file my taxes but am really puzzled about how to factor income from a one-off freelance gig I did back in late 2013.

I called HMRC to report that I was self employed, but they said since I only made £225 I wouldn't have to register.

Instead, they sent me a letter with my new tax code and deducted the £225 (other earnings) from my personal allowance.

My question is, where does the £225 go in my US 1040 tax form?

Do I simply add it to line 7 (wages, salaries, tips, etc.)? Or does it get more complicated and get added to line 21 (other income)? If so, what do I do then?

Many thanks!
