Hi all,
I have been in the UK for a year, studying at King's College London and living with my partner (soon to be fiance) in Chesham. My student visa expires at the end of January and I will be finishing my dissertation in mid-October. I am very keen to find a recruiter who specializes (or is at least knowledgeable) on work visas. I will be getting married, but likely not until late 2015/early 2016 and I simply do not want to get married for a visa, I want a proper wedding, which means having a work visa for most of next year.
My job search will start in earnest after Oct. 15 (when my dissertation is due). I have three degrees: A Master's of Public Administration (MPA) in Natural Resource and Energy Policy, with a focus on conflict resolution (from Portland State University) and will have an MSc in Sustainable Cities from King's with a focus on carbon emission and reporting and methodology (graduation date is June 2015). I also hold a BSc in American Studies (focus environmental science, history, and philosophy) with a minor in Resource Economics. While here in the UK I have interned with Camden's Climate Change Alliance and corporate sustainability team (and I am also working with them finishing up my dissertation). In the past I have worked with/for several universities, a citizens' utility board, community energy project, and manuscript editor.
I can work full time from October to January, so I'll be able to find/start a job quite soon, but now I actually have to *find* a job that will be able to provide a visa, but thankfully since I am currently on a student visa I don't have to go through the UK/EU first process, but of course this waiver only applies if I switch visa types before the end of January.
I would be most grateful for advice/recommendations. I'll have to workshop my CV in the coming weeks as well, as I'm afraid it's not as exciting as it ought to be. I'm pretty much to willing to take any position that will lead to a visa and thankfully my partner meets all of the financial requirements on his own, so that won't have to be a factor once we get ready to file for a spousal visa next year.
Edit: Possibly should have mentioned, 38, female, American citizen...
