Frozen juice concentrate (specifically orange and lemon!)
« on: October 10, 2014, 11:02:55 AM »
I am looking for frozen orange juice concentrate and frozen lemon juice concentrate to make my Aunt Sandy's delicious slushy punch. The only other ingredients are Southern Comfort (although any apricot brandy will do!) and H2O, so the frozen juice concentrates are paramount to the recipe!

Does anyone know where I can buy this? Or, is there any suitable substitute (trying to avoid making my own by reducing orange juice down - takes sooooo much time/orange juice to do it!)?
much love and lots of noise xx

Could you not use orange and lime squash/diluting juice and ice?

Thanks phatbeetle! I could certainly try... maybe I could even try pre-freezing the squash before mixing...

And perhaps I shall try it w/ a really cheap bottle of brandy first, just in case ;)

I too miss the frozen fruit juice concentrates that were cylinder shaped that you could buy in the freezer sections of grocery stores in the USA!! I cant drink anything too acidic and these were ideal cos you could add the amount of water that you wanted!! I believe, if I remember, that it was one can of frozen concentrate to 2 or  2 1/2 cans of water, but I always used to add about 3 cans of water to make them less acidic!!

Plus they worked out cheaper in the long run than actually buying cartons of fruit juices, especially if the grocery stores had any good deals on them, like 4 cans/$2.50(a wild example). I remember, we used to stock up on loads of them and our freezer used to be loaded with them!!LOLOLOL

It really surprises me why the UK never caught onto them!! :o :o

Some brands, if I remember, were Dole, Welches, Minute Maid, Ocean Spray, Cascadian Farm or Old Orchard, and of course, grocery store generic brands!!

Because we have squash, which is basically the same thing, only not frozen.  I like mine super-diluted as well, so i add extra water.

Squash is entirely different!! Its not actual fruit juice, its a chemical water flavouring, similar to Kool Aid!! The frozen fruit juice concentrate is just that FRUIT JUICE, made from actual FRUIT!!

First, we have quite small freezers and there are alternatives to frozen juice available.

Second, you can definitley get really nice fruit cordials and squashes, made with real fruit!

Third, make your own!

I didnt exactly have a gigantic freezer, myself, when I lived in the USA, but I always used to have at least 10 cans of the fruit juice concentrate in stock!! Anyway, even if you had a small freezer, then surely these would fit ideally!! They dont take up any large amounts of space, which is another plus asset for them!!

Anyway, now in the UK, we do have huge freezers, and have done now for at least 2 decades, even American-style ones now!!

Also, as I said before, SQUASH and fruit JUICE are entirely different!! Fruit juice is actually made from the extracted juice of the real fruit, whereas squash is made from chemicals!!

Umm, those links I sent to you were for squash that was made from fruit juice. No chemicals required.

Make your own frozen concentrate if it's something you really want.

Thanks everyone! I agree with all comments...

Making a juice-drink with quash doesn't taste the same as making a juice-drink with frozen concentrate, but it certainly works on the same principles and I shall try it as a substitute!

My plan is to pour all natural squash over frozen fruit and freeze it all together, in the hopes of creating the slushy/mooshy consistency of the frozen concentrate.

I shall then add loads of brandy and water, refreeze, and hope for the best!

Will let you know how it turns out...
