Airfare and Custom Fees for two cats
« on: October 29, 2014, 10:57:18 PM »
Hi all!

My husband and I will be moving from the Chicago area to London next August 2015, and we're just starting to look into the process for bringing our two cats. I've been in contact with a few pet travel agencies, and I've been quoted that the 'airfare' (shipping costs) will be about $1000 per cat, independent of relocation service fees, and customs clearance another $600-700 for both cats. Do these numbers look right to you? I'm having a hard time finding straightforward numbers on what it actually costs to fly two cats in and have them cleared through customs.

Thanks!

Using a pet travel agency on the US side adds a LOT to the cost. We checked into that in 2011, and ended up doing it ourselves. At that time, on Delta from ATL to MAN was around $700 for one cat in a purpose built very heavy crate. The clearance fee on the UK side was around £130 as I recall.

Others who have done it more recently will be able to give you more up to date advice.
Married December 1992 (my 'old flame' whom I first met in the mid-70s)
1st move to UK - 1993 (Letter of Consent granted at British Embassy in Washington DC)
ILR - 1994 (1 year later - no fee way back then!)
Back to US in 2000
Returned to UK July 2011 (Spousal Visa/KOL endorsement)
ILR - September 2011
Application for naturalization submitted July 2014
Approval received 15-10-14; ceremony scheduled for 10 November!
Passport arrived 25 November 2014. Finally done!

I've read elsewhere that Virgin fees are quite reasonable, and that you don't need to use an agency to deal with the paperwork. I'm sure others will be along to help with hard details.

I am moving from Tulsa to Weston-super-Mare, England. The only airline I found that would put my cat on the same flight as  myself was British Airways...BUT I have to get us to Dallas because they don't fly out of Tulsa. The airfare quoted from Dallas to London Heathrow was just over $1200. I contacted a pet courier but they wanted over $3,000. Do you have all your paperwork in order?
