Hi...I'm a US citizen married to a Brit, and we're gearing up to move to the London area in March 2015 after living in New York City for 8 years and Arizona for 5. We got married in the US and now have 2 kids, and we're anxious to live closer to my husband's family (in Stoke-on-Trent). We have a temporary flat in Beckenham (through a family friend) where we'll stay for a couple of months but have yet to decide where we'll end up for the longer term. My husband will look for work (in finance) straight away, and I will take a few months off to get the family settled. After that, I plan to resume my career as a scientific editor/science writer -- either with a London-based publisher, freelance or a combination thereof.
I'm sure to have loads of questions as we start to delve into the logistics of moving over. Luckily, I have already obtained my spouse Visa; we had a great immigration lawyer, based in Edinburgh, who was worth every penny -- we paid for expediting and had visa in hand in just 10 days door-to-door! We had lots of questions and discovered loads of inconsistencies in the website instructions, so we undoubtedly wouldn't have fared as well on our own. Happy to recommend if anyone is interested.
