Can someone please give me a straight up to the point answer as to what forms I need to print and file? My husband is British born and has never lived in the USA so therefore, from my understanding I will file married filing separately.

I do not have any investments, bank accounts or loads of money anywhere. Just a part time job earning a bit of money for the household.

I was put into a work place pension scheme but have since opted out and got the money refunded to me, which wasn't a huge amount.

A little background, have been in the UK since 2002 last time I filed taxes was 2003 (for 2002) which was filed in the USA not from here in the UK. I have not worked until 2014. I have however received some royalties from Getty Images but not enough to put me over the threshold of filing.

I have looked at the IRS website but get lost in all the forms and just need a clear answer as to the ones I need. So would greatly appreciate if anyone can help me with a list so I can get them downloaded and printed.

Thank you in advance.
Sharon

Sharon, I'm afraid no one can answer your question unless you give complete details of all your financial situation for the past year, on this, a public forum, which WOULD NOT be something any sane person would want to do. It would also be illegal for anyone, here on this public forum, to advise what you should do precisely to complete your individual 1040 return. Welcome to the world of US tax and information reporting for the US citizen living abroad.

My husband is British born and has never lived in the USA so therefore, from my understanding I will file married filing separately.

That is the normal practice, but it can be different for some with unique circumstances. As difficult as it may be to understand, everyone's circumstances are unique. Since you have royalties, are you self-employed? Royalties are covered under the US/UK Treaty, but be aware of the saving clause.

The standard "starting kit" is a form 1040 and a form 2555 (if your income is "earned"). There are "EZ" versions of both forms, but you need to determine if you can use these, or if they are to your best advantage. Form 1116 in lieu of 2555 may offer a better outcome, depending on your sources of income.

In addition, you should file Schedule B and complete Part III. Even though you may have no foreign accounts, it would be advantageous to make the declaration since you live abroad. You may also, it appears, have to file form 8965.

Even though you have "opted out" of your workplace pension scheme, you did have it during the year and you therefore must decide if it needs reporting. Research "pension" topics on this and other forums. There are many threads, but anything approaching an official solution is not available. If you are still receiving royalties, these need to be considered as well as the method of reporting.
