Reporting employment to Home Office
« on: March 24, 2015, 01:11:18 PM »
Hi everyone. I was talking to a friend of mine in London the other day who works with international banking and therefore takes seminars yearly to stay up to date on immigration law, and she mentioned a few things to make sure I am aware of them.
She told me that if anything changes during my spousal visa - even my phone number - that I have to report the change to the Home Office/Immigration. So, contact details, residence, and employment. I will hopefully be starting a part time job soon, so I will have to report that. Can anyone give me the email address or phone number to report this to? I am not exactly sure who it is. Thanks so much.

No idea where she came up with this but it's not true.  You don't have to report any of those things, certainly not employment.

You would only need to notify the Home Office if your relationship breaks down.

You do need to report some changes, primarily a change of address, if you hold a biometric permit.

But you don't have to report a change in phone number or employment.

I am very confused now. Because both she and my husband had friends who were here on visas and they failed to report changes (one of the failed to report phone number changes), and were fined for it. Well, at least the one who didn't report a phone number change was fined. I am not sure about my husband's friend. Thanks for the info though. Is there a website or email where I can actually email Home Office to ask?

How and when were they fined? It sounds like there's a detail missing as I've never heard of anyone being fined for not reporting a change in phone number or employment.

I applied for FLR with no job. I started working (without reporting it to the Home Office) and a few years later applied for ILR. In my ILR application I included all my employment info (which didn't exist at my FLR appointment and hadn't been reported to them) and they didn't say anything.

As geeta said, changes only need to be reported if they affect your BRP. Address, name, gender, nationality, facial appearance and date of birth (if it was incorrect) need to be reported. If they're not reported within 3 months, then they can be fined up to £1,000.

Dec 2012 - FLR | Nov 2014 - ILR | Dec 2015 - UK Citizen
