Passport stamped with wrong date upon re-entry
« on: June 02, 2015, 10:26:35 PM »
I re-entered the EU today (Boston --> Dublin --> Gatwick).  At Dublin, my passport was stamped 02 May 2015 rather than 02 Jun 2015.  I didn't realise this error until after I'd left immigration.

I spoke to someone from the airline and they simply said "it shouldn't be a problem."   I tried to suggest that maybe they should let immigration know that they're stamping people in with the wrong date (and probably have been since yesterday)...but the staff member seemed to have no intention of making any attempts to correct the situation.

Has this happened to anyone before? I tend to think of my passport as a legal document; one where the stamps can be used to "track" my movements.  I know they scan the barcode and everything, so I'm documented as having entered today (June)... but I have had to go back to the stamps for personal use in the past to confirm dates, etc.

After stamping, the IO hand-signed something on either side of the stamp, but it's illegible.  Maybe it's his signature? Would it be completely inappropriate for me to correct the date?

I didn't get a stamp at Gatwick.

You're lucky to get any stamp at all these days.  Both my current passports (US and RoI) are as naked as the day they were born.  But I can assure you that the Home Office knows the traffic in and out of the UK.
