I am a retired American.    I will be marrying an English Citizen who is also retired and currently lives in the Canary Islands.    We will be living there.    Will I have difficulty living there    and also we will be visiting the family in England 3-4 times a year-will I have difficulty re entering the Country?    Also, something else that is important    is there a place to buy coffee beans?    I have a lot of kitchen appliances    will they operate with a convertor for the electricity?   Help me

Sorry, but I don't think many people on this forum will have much personal experience or advice about the visa requirements and/or living in the Canary Islands as they are a Spanish territory.  We mostly have people moving to the UK.  Perhaps you'll have more luck searching for forums geared towards Americans moving to and living in Spain and associated territories.

If you want to marry in the UK you will need a marriage visitor visa and we can advise with that.  But I don't think many people here will be able to help with queries related to moving to and living in the Canary Islands.

Thanks so much.    I will contact any expats living in the Canary Islands that are in my situation.    I guess my concern is whether or not I will have any difficulty visiting family a few times a year for a month at a time.     I will tailor my questions to just things pertaining to  England.    I guess I shall contact the British Consulate to find out more information.     Again, thanks for your assistance.

The general guidelines for visiting the UK are that:

- you can demonstrate strong ties to your normal country of residence (the IO must be satisfied that you will leave the UK at the end of your trip and won't attempt to overstay your visitor visa)

- you have sufficient finances and accommodation for the duration of your trip (travel/medical insurance is also helpful to show you can cover any medical expenses that may arise)

- you spend as much time in the UK as outside the UK (essentially, that you are not trying to live in the UK with a succession of visitor visas; if you spend 3 months in the UK, it is advised to spend 3 months outside the UK and so on)

If you can demonstrate these things with evidence (ex. being able to show the IO your return travel ticket(s), bank balances, hotel reservations, etc), you are unlikely to have any issues visiting the UK, especially if you space out your visits so that you're spending equal amounts of time inside and outside the UK.

I should note that you have previous adverse UK immigration history (ex. refused visa, bounce, etc), it is highly recommended to apply for a visitor visa in advance of travel.
