But it's sooo good. ;)

Grilled cheese sandwich is my comfort food. But I'm really picky. I has to be Kraft processed cheese and horirble - additive fueled white bread. Nothing less. Hmm. I haven't made it in quite awhile.  ;)

Ok, if anybody knows where to get Velveeta here I would just be sooooooooo happy. I already have my mom and sis, both in Ca, sending me those little packets of enchilada sauce, {the jar stuff here just isn't the same}, and those little cheap boxes of mac and cheese, but I think it would be a bit expensive to send a big thing of Velveeta!

Try this...get cheddar cheese. Put two pieces of bread in your grill and grill lightly on one side. Then take the hot bread out and butter the UNtoasted side and put on thin cut pieces of cheese on top of the butter. Put back into grill and grill till cheese is melted. Take out and salt. Very nice! :)

I do "Cheese on Toast" this same way - well except for the butter!  After you flip the toasted bread - place the cheese on the untoasted side...top with a little Worcester Sauce and you have a "Welsh Rabbit".... my Welsh hubby just calls it "Cheese on Toast". Lovely.

I only use cheddar for my grilled cheese. After having good cheese for 5 years now - the thought of "processed cheese food" (American singles - Velveeta) is not appealing at all!

Yeah.....take a puppy's chew toy (preferably unused)...put it in the microwave to warm and soften it up a bit and then chew on it!  Tastes just like Velveeta!  ;)

No - nor is it like anything you could WANT to have!   ;)

The only way I like velveeta is cubed and melted in the microwave with good salsa. It makes a great queso dip. Mind you, it's the ONLY way I eat it! Unlike good cheeses, velveeta melts and stays melted well (it doesn't separate).

That said, I'm just as happy to shred some cheddar over chips and heat that in the oven for proper nachos!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Velveeta is nasty.   [smiley=puke.gif]
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

This is also my fav comfort food Ashley :),, and kraft is the cheese of choice for me :)  I use my George Foreman grill to do mine on ,, it smushes the sandwich perfectly, with the right amount of cheese leakage for a bit of browned cheese around the edges,, yummmmm!

Well, being a self confessed food geek that I am.  I must confess that I (cringe) do use Velveeta for one thing and one thing only.  I make a cheese and beer dip in a pumpernickel bread boule every Christmas and it is very good.  That is the only time I use Velveeta.  I even found a copykat recipe for Velveeta, not the exact thing, but when you melt it and add beer to it, well it goes down well.  Now, saying that I love the selection of cheeses here especially the bleu cheeses.  Even though the DH has a cholesterol problem (I don't) we try a different cheese every week.  I have even looked into making my own cheeses here since the weather is cold and damp and perfect for mould development.  Okay, nuff said, I told you I was a food geek.   ;D

I have gotten my new inlaws and hubby addicted to my grilled cheese sandwiches... to them grilled cheese was an open faced cheddar melted on a piece of bread under the grill ... so when i  handed them buttered on the outside cooked on a griddle ham and swiss cheese( elemental???) they couldnt get enough of em... now i have to make em at least once a fortnight    ;D   Jo

Right, I have been eating grilled cheese's for the past few days now.  tebs, how long on the GFG do you leave it?  I can't seem to get the timing right.  I did burn a bit of the cheese today, yum, I forgot how much I love that burned cheese flavor!
