How long is the BRP processing time by post?
« on: September 29, 2015, 11:12:00 AM »
Hello,

I sent my TOC (Transfer of Conditions) application off on Sept. 18th for a BRP to replace the visa in my expiring US passport (when I entered the UK, they had not begun issuing BRPs yet with spouse visas). Just wondering if anyone knows the average processing time once your application has been received by Home Office? They haven't even taken the charge out of my credit card yet. It's not an urgent issue, in case no one has an answer.

Thanks!

I think it usually takes about 2 months. I am not quoting any recent timelines or anything, but that's what I think the "standard" processing time is.

I notice your original post was years ago,  but how did it go?

My ILR is in my US passport which is due to expire January 2019 and I think BRP is the way to go for me.  I was just curious how it went for you?

Did you apply before your US passport expired? How long did it take for you? Everything going smoothly now?

Thanks

Have you given any thought to applying for UK citizenship? We always recommend doing that.  :)

I have, but it is far too expensive for me at the moment!  Also, due to my health(diagnosed after moving over) returning to the US is very unlikely so I don't think I would be at risk of losing my rights to reside here.

The upside to UKC would be being able to vote.

The downside to a continued permit /visa is needing to keep up with legal changes.

Unless there is something else to consider? My kids are all fine as they are dual and I won't be able to do away with the trips to London anyway as I have no intention of giving up my USC.

You've obviously given it a lot of thought but I would still go for it. You just never know what the future holds and naturalising will never be  cheaper than it is now.
