US Tax Advisory service Cost UK?
« on: December 10, 2015, 07:34:24 PM »
Hi

I need to do my FBAR and Streamlined procedure.

I was wondering which firms in the UK that could help with this?

Are most of them over the phone? is there any of them you can sit down and have a meeting with?

And what are the costs for the service? for filling INcome tax for 3 years and FBARs for a couple more years ?

THanks in advance

You don't say where are located but if you are in the UK then I came across this site on the IRS/Treasury website where you can look up IRS qualified tax accountants in your country of choice.

http://irs.treasury.gov/rpo/rpo.jsf

If you select UK then leave the zipcode field blank it will list 380 tax preparers that you can scroll through. Most are located in London.

As durhamlad notes, the IRS made public earlier this year a very helpful Directory, which is a complete list of the only individuals who are qualified to advise on US tax matters; and which can be found here:
http://irs.treasury.gov/rpo/rpo.jsf. The IRS list is an excellent tool that is designed to help check if any adviser or proposed adviser has any tax credentials within the United States.  Most UK based individuals will naturally also want to check that any proposed tax adviser is qualified with at least one professional accounting or tax institution in the UK as well as in the United States so that they know that an adviser is also adequately regulated in the UK.

The IRS list confirms that there are fewer than 400 qualified individuals in the UK, many of whom are naturally already employed by the larger accounting firms, so the numbers of potentially suitably qualified tax advisers that might be able to help the several hundred thousand persons in the UK with US related tax issues such as yours are surprisingly small.

Let me say first that I do not work with a firm that provides US tax return completion services.
But our US clients do ask for referrals to such firms.
If a client asked us for a catch-up and compliance service of the kind you have mentioned, I would create a shortlist from those individuals who had worked for the larger firms and were now out on their own, or in small partnerships. I would expect them to charge less, but be just as good. About 600 per year is the rate for US and UK returns and the interaction. If you have a batch of three years and the pattern of income / claims is common then I would expect a small discount. As usual they look for the long term win-win: they like to select those clients who value what they do and who are profitable.
Hope that helps.

Let me give a shout out for these two people

Liz Zitrow of Britishamericantax.com

David Treitel of Americantaxreturns.com

I don't know what they charge, but they know their stuff and are fully qualified to advise you.
