Thanks for all the replies everyone!

I wanted to make some Chex Mix and bring to work, but I dont have time now to order some or the energy to seek out an American grocery (there used to be one in Hampstead but I guess its been long gone).  I dont normally eat breakfast cereal, but I had a suspicion that shreddies were sweeter than our Chex.  I did find an expat online who has an imitation lawrys seasoned salt recipe:

I wonder if leaving the sugar out of the seasoned salt to account for shreddies sugar would work.  Also - what is this tomfoolery about Cheerios in ChexMix? :P

My other option is to go for Puppy Chow and put everyone in a diabetic coma.

Wait.

What?

Are you suggesting that you DON'T put Cheerios in your Chex Mix????

That's DH's favourite part. I'm a fan, too, especially if there are pretzel sticks (I enjoy spearing Cheerios with pretzel sticks... I'm easily amused ::) ).

No worries. Chex are the only thing missing in the UK, from my experience.

Since there are UK substitutes for Goldfish (Finz, exact same), Cheerios (low sugar oat Cheerios, exact same) and Lawry's (make your own spice mix), it's just the Chex. If you can't get them from the US or online, Shreddies might be the closest thing. Chex Mix isn't quite the same without Chex.

I'm guessing this is just me, but where can I get onion powder and garlic powder? We get granules of both at Sainsbury's and Tesco and I saw garlic powder on the Tesco website, but can't find onion powder. It's so easy to find in the US, but I can't seem to find it here.

DH was thinking Shreddies are the same as wheat Chex, but he hasn't had them in a long time and couldn't remember for sure. Also, are they sweet like UK Cheerios v US Cheerios?

As a side-note, I stumbled across this in my Shreddies research: http://www.myshreddies.com/

Enjoy.

I can't add much to this discussion, I'm always the one eating all the nuts and pretzels out of the chex mix and leaving the cereal behind.   ;)

However.... I really (really!) need to apply more discretion when it comes to clicking on links just willy nilly like!  I was expecting something about cereal... now I'm struggling to get my jaw up off the floor, and wondering what I can do to get that image out of my brain!   Who thinks up stuff like that?!?   :o

(By the way, I do tend to exaggerate things a wee bit.  ;D )

Hehehe. Sorry about that. I should have put a disclaimer. ;)

Oooh, but it's fun to call it by such a silly name!

Dang, now I REALLY want some. I haven't had it in years!
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.
