Might as well....

Some of you know me...some of you don't...  ;)

I'm Jacky (nuff said!  ::) )

Seriously though, I live near Bristol, I've just celebrated my 5th wedding anniversary, and my husband and I are about to embark on the "hike from hell" at the end of February.  We will be hiking the Appalachian Trail  (that's 2,183 miles give or take).  It will probably take us 6-8 months.

After that my husband is coming back to his job and I will be starting yoga teacher training in the Iyengar method.  I am an avid yoga practitioner and have been for nearly 4 years.

My husband is Welsh, as are my two step sons (aged 9 & 11).

So anyway - that's me in a nutshell...and really I ain't as bad as some may have heard!  ;)

Jumping in to say 'hi' to Jacky and introduce myself as well.  I'm Leigh and I'm orginally from Houston, TX.  I now live in Edinburgh with my Scots husband and our one-year-old daughter, Aillidh.
I left the US in early 2002 and never looked back.  Everyday I love it more!  :D

Well I'll be here at least until the end of February...after that I will be sleeping in a tent somewhere between Georgia and Maine with no internet access (couldn't find a 2,000 mile long extention cord!  ;) )

I used to live in PA and the Trail passed by my town. Gorgeous!
Do you two hike other places?...you mentioned he's Welsh, so I imagined you weekending in Snowden, for instance.

Hi Jacky and welcome to UKY!  Hiking the Trail is something I have alwasy wanted to do.  Wave to VA for me when you get there!  We have just started doing bits of the coastal path and I will one day some how find the time to do a few days/months walk.

Welcome Jacky!  I h ope you enjoy the site!

I have to admit that I have never wanted to hike and usually have to be dragged along by my overly enthusiastic husband...6-8 months of just walking must be my idea of hell (and if that were to be combined to walking for 6-8 months through Ikea, that would be the worst hell imaginable!!)

Well we have hiked the Pembrokeshire Coastal path- gorgeous but HARD...it's all UP and DOWN...and 6 inches to the right of your feet is imminent death down the cliff....Won't do that one again!  That was 186 miles, but we did over 200 as we hiked off path for our accomodation.

We hiked West Highland Way last summer - that was only 96 miles, and I would DEFINITELY do that one again!!   There are tough bits on that one (like Devil's staircase) but overall not as tough...although it's a road like surface and is murder on the feet!

Funny enough we haven't done Snowdon...my husband has a long time ago, but he says I'm not ready!!! (what's that all about?)

We have been saving for nearly 3 1/2 years for this and now we go in 4 months!!!  I am getting a bit freaked out!

Anyone want to join us?  I need someone to carry my pack!  ::)  (kidding!)

sounds great jacky...my husband is an avid walker...but not done the lengths at one time that you have...I think...  he would love to do the appalachian trail...  and his biggest desire is the Pilgram walk across Spain.  I am far from ready for any of that...but never going to say never...

Yoga is one of the programs I have always wanted to get into...just not sure my body will allow it...I creak way too much.
