After FLR..preparing for ILR
« on: May 05, 2016, 11:26:55 AM »
Ok...it's time for me to start obsessing about what I need to gather and keep for our ILR.  Lol

After receiving our BRP cards yesterday, we received our passports..all documents I sent as evidence, and the letter of approval from Home Office.  Everything just showed up without a decision email.  From start to finish, the waiting time was 7 weeks.  Not too bad, considering it's for myself and my 4 children.  Not a completely straight forward case.

Now....what should I be doing to prepare for our ILR?  Am I still keeping heaps of mail?  Lol

Thank you ... :-)

Yes, continue to get paper statements and keep your mail.  You will need it again for the next one.

And keep saving.  The next visa is even more expensive.  Currently £1,875 each (has nearly doubled in the last two years).  I would recommend budgeting for £2,500 each.  Hopefully it won't rise that much and you'll have a bit left over!

If you want to do citizenship immediately after you receive ILR, it's currently just under £1,300 each.  <sigh>  Almost there!

Wow the price has really gone up since I did the entire process.  I feel for you and the financial hit you are going to take.

I know I kept everything from my FLR application, which I was denied and ultimately received a special visa due to the Home Office mistakes.  I also included all our personal birthday, anniversary and Valentine cards, loads of photos to show how in love and a real relationship we had as well as my first visa application and documents.  I basically buried the Home Office in documents.   I now have my citizenship but I still have all the documents and make sure they are safe just in case.  If I have any advice it would be as soon as you have your ILR and are able to get your citizenship. Because it looks like the costs are just going to increase.

I wish you all the best and good luck in your path.
