An American Intellectual In London
« on: June 09, 2016, 06:05:06 AM »
Hi. Been living here in London this time since 2008. For various reasons I have not actively sought to connect with fellow Americans here. Mostly because I have been too busy just trying to make ends meet. About to turn 52 this July. Cathy is my significant other. She's lived with me back home ( California, Maryland, DC ). In any case; needing better connectivity here. Seems almost impossible to make any real friends in London these days. I am a published writer with a significant readership.  I also have a serious professional level ( with extensive prof. experience ) interest in pro Movie-making ( genres: Art Movie, SciFi, Historical Thrillers, about and for sophisticated intellectuals ). My few British friends are .... well ... British! Thanks. BEst, JP

Hi,

I can understand the difficulty in getting out and about when funding is tight and you wish to do things or have interests which most likely cost money. On top of that, given the pace of life in London, the cramped and gridlocked transportation systems, it can be an issue just getting a couple of miles away!

That all said, here on this forum there's some good suggestions of things to do and see which are very frugal and also free. There are also various events both do to with Americans in the UK as well as ones for all sorts of other interests etc.

To my mind, it's never a bad thing to use public forums like this one to reach out and see what and who is out there! the great thing is sometimes connections are really easy to come by! so much so, that I'll be in touch with you about your movie making skills and knowledge, the reason being I was talking to a contact just 3 days ago about the potential of making a short movie for a specific area of interest I have (Automotive)

There used to be some London events and I used to nip along to a few of them, hopefully, there'll be more in the future. I think many members from this place went over to Facebook when that went all super popular so perhaps there's more on there and some members on here who are on both can let us know of any coming up etc?

Cheers, DtM! West London & Slough UK!
