proof of intent to marry: advice?
« on: October 14, 2016, 04:30:04 AM »
So if we go the fiancee visa route, we need proof of intent to marry.
What do you suggest as the best evidence?
Clearly if we book a venue and set a date at a legal marriage venue, that may suffice, but what if we're undecided?
I heard a wedding dress receipt is an option, but what if I will be aquiring my dress in cash through a vintage resale buyer, who can only provide a hand written receipt from a receipt book.?
Are there any other ways?
Picture of engagement ring, picture of me in my dress, etc.
I just want to prove we're genuine!
Thanks!
 ;D

All you need is an email enquiry and response to the church or registry office asking about possible ceremony dates.

You don't have to book anything, just show you're making enquiries for a possible date that you might wish to book.

You can send any correspondence you have with the venue, discussing availability and possible dates.

Also any you have with anyone else related to the wedding planning; florist, reception venue, printer for invitations etc.

Receipts for everything are great, send the hand written one.

Photos of you in the dress and with the ring are great too.

Second what Larrabee said.

I bought my dress on Etsy so included the printed off email, the email included a photo. I made my bouquet ahead of time, paper roses, sent a pic of that. And included info about where we wanted to have the ceremony and how the people at the registrar's office required me to have put in notice before we would be allowed to set a date. It went smoothly!

I included a photo of the ring after my fiance proposed. Definitely wasn't wearing the dress as it needed to be altered at the time of applying.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Thanks so much, you all!
I just wondered about the hand written receipt, since you can easily purchase a receipt book from any office supply shop, and just make it up.
So photo and ring. check.
Also wondering, if we don't pay up front to book a wedding location, how is the best way to show that we are at least looking? Printed out  E mail inquiry? I just don't want us to pay the fee to reserve the venue just to provide evidence, and then have things possibly get delayed and have to change the date/location etc.  :)

Yep, a printed email enquiry is fine :).

That's all they expect really, since they know you can't generally book/pay for anything until after the visa has been granted.
