Going off the grid!
« on: November 17, 2016, 12:16:57 PM »
Hey everyone,

Just to let you know that I'm going to be working overseas for the next 3 months and will only have limited internet access, so won't be participating in the forum much until late February.

I'm down to my last few minutes of WiFi access here in Southern Chile, and then I fly to Antarctica in a couple of hours (weather permitting). While I will have internet access while I'm there, it's very slow and temperamental, so I can't guarantee how much I will be able to get online.

If I am able to get onto the forum, I might be able to post the odd reply here and there, but probably won't have time to give in-depth replies or answer PMs etc.

That sounds really cool, keep us up to date on the weather down there.  Could you fly a kite where you are going?

Thanks, everyone :).

I successfully arrived in Antarctica on Thursday :).

It turns out the internet isn't quite as bad as I had feared - I can get on the forum okay, but it's just fairly slow to load :). However, as I'm going to be working long hours and will be pretty busy, I probably won't be that active on the forum while I'm here.

Glad you arrived safely.

Don't worry about UKY or how often you can get on... your job and your experience there are about a million times more important!

Just checking your weather for today. Quite a spread. Anywhere from +5 to -29 (accuweather....I know).
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

What an experience! Makes me wish I had opted for a concentration in Climatology/Meteorology instead of Geomorphology way 'back in the day'. :-)

Married December 1992 (my 'old flame' whom I first met in the mid-70s)
1st move to UK - 1993 (Letter of Consent granted at British Embassy in Washington DC)
ILR - 1994 (1 year later - no fee way back then!)
Back to US in 2000
Returned to UK July 2011 (Spousal Visa/KOL endorsement)
ILR - September 2011
Application for naturalization submitted July 2014
Approval received 15-10-14; ceremony scheduled for 10 November!
Passport arrived 25 November 2014. Finally done!

I missed this post completely! Hope you have a wonderful time, ksand24, in between the hard work!
Married 1966, left UK 1969, returned 1998, left again 2000, returned June 2014 (husband on spousal visa) granted FLR(M) November 30th 2016  and ILR on  24th May, 2019. Yeah!
