Sometimes people surprise you.....
« on: November 25, 2004, 11:15:58 AM »
You know what?  Just when you think life is not so great and just when you start to let your mind play tricks on you and just when your faith waivers.... something nice happens.

Yesterday it all started with a package.  Here I was thinking...oh I am getting a card or something and I get not one but two boxes of Nilla Wafers! Thanks to Peedal and Wishstar!  :-* :-* :-*

Then my FIL goes out and buys a crown of Turkey for dinner tonight as he says we can't have your Thanksgiving tomorrow without a turkey.... :) Now this guy is a pensioner with not a whole lot of money and well... it was just nice... he would not let me pay.  He walked up and down the Plain (shopping area where we live) to find a turkey that was small enough to defrost for today.  I was just going to do a chicken.

So that started the ball rolling...then this morning my husband brings up a card and plops it on my head..not great since I was still half dozey... BUT the card is from our British neighboors at the end of the street.  They gave us a Giving thanks Christmas card with a great big HAPPY THANKSGIVING inside!  Now they know I am from the US, but I was just so touched as they just mostly smile at me from a distance.

Then "Jimmy can fix it guy" that has done a lot of the work in our house shows up with a bottle of Sherry for me and he is fnishing my tile in the bathroom! (Though it does put a damper on my plans to meet up with BarbG for the flag raising. :-\\\\

So I am so thankful today for the wonderful people I have at home and the people I have in my new home.  I could not be more blessed.  I really could not.  I am constantly amazed  at how nice people are around here.  They make all the sterotypes go away.

I am also thankful for UKY!  You guys are the best!

Oh, peeps, I understand about the card.

I got home yesterday and not only was an amazing birthday pressie waiting for me from Wishstar, but an actual Thanksgiving card from my in-laws!  They had been at Lakeside and my mother-in-law actually asked in the card shop (don't know which one) if they had any Thanksgiving cards and they did!  A small section by the Christmas ones - and they're obviously from the States because the prices on the back are for US & Canada!

I started to cry, honestly.  And even better, they've sent a Thanksgiving card to my mother in the US.  Okay - now I'm almost crying again...

Wow, that is so nice!  People all around me here at work have wished me a Happy Thanksgiving!  It really made me feel better!  Even my colleagues mother wished it to me on the phone today!

Glad you had a nice day, though we did miss you at the flag raising!  Not as many people this year, but it was still nice to hear  American accents all around us.  oh, and a side note.....Tanner's was fantastic!

The MIL was working on her Xmas cards today and suddenly remembered it was Thanksgiving so she called and left a message for us!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Awww, I'm so glad the nilla wafers helped make it a good week for you, Vnice.  :)  It is good to feel warm and fuzzy when the weather starts turning cold.  How sweet that your friends made such an effort to notice Thanksgiving.  Just goes to show how wonderfully warm Brits can be!  :)

(And Em, I'm so glad you liked your gift too!)   ;D

My inlaws just left a few minutes ago to fly home to Inverness.  They came all the way down to London on Thursday to help us celebrate Thanksgiving.  It was a great visit and meant so much to me that they made such an effort.  And they willingly enjoyed all the strange American food I made!

I also got a great Thanksgiving treat...
we had all been talking about Christmas and when the season begins the other day and i was saying that day after thanksgiving was our official start date in the U.S.  and we always put our tree up then and my MIL says oh we don't do it until Dec. 1st... so anyway... Thursday marked my first real day at work, a 12 hour shift from 8 am til 8pm so there was no way that i was gonna get to have Thanksgiving this year... :(     my Jimmy came to pick me up from work and we chatted about my day and as we pulled up to the house I got my nice surprise... While I had been at work
Jimmy and his mum had put up the tree and decorated it    ;D ;D ;D
All i could do was say omg you guys are so sweet...  it definitely made my week
