Bank Statement Stamping/Authentication
« on: February 01, 2017, 01:56:32 PM »
Hello Everyone,

I went into Barclays (my bank) to enquire about having my statements/transaction lists authenticated/stamped. I was told that no such thing exists, much to my surprise.

Although i printed off the statements/transaction lists at home they include my name and account number/sort code. The statements also contain my home address.

Is this acceptable or should i be going back in to ask again?

Many Thanks

Your printed at home statements MUST be stamped on every page OR accompanied by a letter from the bank, or they will not be considered authentic.

Regardless of the name and account number being on them, if they are printed at home, they could have been forged and therefore will not be accepted.

You have a few options:

- try again to get them stamped by the bank, or try a different branch
or
- ask the bank to write a letter instead of stamping them, confirming their authenticity
or
- ask the bank to print them out in-branch for you
or
- ask the bank to mail the statements to your home address

Lovely, thank you. I suspected that would be the answer. I will try speaking to another branch in order to get them stamped, given that the only printing they provide is a god awful printer in the account management machine which makes it impossible to read the certified copy part in the corner.

Fingers crossed don't end up banging my head against a brick wall!

Don't they also need to be stamped? When I asked my bank to print the statements they looked less authentic than if I printed them at home. I was advised to get each page stamped which is probably wise while you're there and as they have printed them so feel more comfortable to their authenticity.

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this before, but no, they don't have to be stamped if they are printed out by the bank. In the last 4 years, I don't think anyone has had any issues with having the bank print the statements and them not being stamped.

It's only online banking statements printed by you at home that must be stamped. As long as the bank prints them, they are considered original.

A point worth making, which i just learnt today, is that the versions that the bank prints and mails to you have a small section (for Barclays it is in the bottom right corner of the first page) which says "Certified Copy". This is followed by the date and the branch it was printed in.
