Anybody know any "gaming" groups?
« on: February 08, 2017, 11:11:38 AM »
Long shot as I doubt there's any "expat specific" game groups, but does anybody know of any type of "gaming meetups where people would be playing board games/table top games while also enjoying a few beers?
My, how time flies....

I guess you already know about the chain of "Games Workshops "?  I'd doubt there's much beer drinking going on there.

You are geeking hard.

Guess I should specify haha

Not Games Workshops. That's tooooo hardcore for me (at the moment) haha it makes me think of that scene from 49 year old virgin where Steve Carrel is doing his montage of fulfilling stuff and he's like "I will now paint your silver pants blue!"

I was thinking more along the lines of Seinfeld, when Kramer starts doing Karate and winning competitions.  It ends up that all his opponents are 12 years old.

There's a Facebook group that was recommended to me to try to find local groups. They seem pretty friendly overall and have lots of recommendations for gaming groups all around. It's called Board Game Trading and Chat UK. You can also try to go to U.K. Games Expo in Birmingham in the summer- they have a massive board game convention and you can meet more gamers and try various games! Also try to find the board game stores in/near you as they sometimes have get togethers or in-store events where you can meet fellow gamers!

Husband and I just got a few games (Munchkin and Dominion) and have another we might buy because it's easy but SO fun (King of Tokyo) but not many people we're friends with interested in playing! Haha at least not friends we see regularly

We have King of Tokyo! It's not a very long game by any means with only two people. We think it would be more fun with a group.  ;D
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Yeah it's meant to be 3+ unfortunately. I think we could convince friends to play that as it's much easier to explain and doesn't take too long to play through and you could probably play it at the pub quite easily. I absolutely love it! So good and the characters are cute bags I was cyber bunny

I loooooove Munchkin; it's so fun! I can't wait until my kids are older so I can teach them!

It is incredibly fun! You are meant to play 3+ players but we almost always play just us two and luckily it works out okay haha

I got the basic set the last time I was in the US. It is SO expensive here to buy! When they get a bit older, I'll get some of the expansion packs. We've tried to play with the 12yo, but he doesn't quite get it. I grew up on D&D so I find Munchkin hilarious.

One massive hint : EBAY! hahaha we got it so much cheaper on ebay! As long as you check what they list the condition as, you're fine (Ebay protects buyers pretty well, thankfully!). We went with one that was "like new" so we got a pretty good deal! I would suggest looking there first before buying new copies as it honestly can say you a far amount and you don't really notice the difference as the quality is still fine! If it shows up and it's rubbish, you contact the seller (or Ebay if they don't respond) and it gets resolved as it needs to be in the condition listed!

OMG. Of course! I think to look on eBay for some things, but not always! Man, I miss Craigslist too (especially since we're moving next month!)
