Hi guys.
So this is my second year filing from the UK, but last year was actually easy because my gross income was under the USA taxable amount - even counting the higher conversion rate then. This year, I've made more although it is still ridiculously below the limit for exception.
However, I am very confused - I don't know how I wasn't last year. Anyway, on 2555, line 45 - it says: "Subtract line 44 from line 43. Enter the result here and in parentheses on Form 1040, line 21.
Next to the amount enter “Form 2555.” On Form 1040, subtract this amount from your income
to arrive at total income on Form 1040, line 22."
Then on line 22 of form 1040, it says: "Combine the amounts in the far right column for lines 7 through 21. This is your total income."
Does this mean that on form 1040, line 21, I put "$$$ Form 2555" on the line within the text and then leave the actual box empty? This would ensure that line 22 would be 0.
Because if I put my income in dollars in box 21, it makes my gross income that same amount and proceeding with the form, I end up with a taxable income on line 43 and have no idea how to proceed.
Normally, I email questions like these to the IRS's email tax law question program....but apparently they have gotten rid of that. :-(
Anyone know?
