Disaster Strikes! BRP(RC)
« on: May 31, 2017, 10:30:22 PM »
I moved to Manchester 15 Dec 2010 after marrying my lovely Mancunian Wife. I applied for, and received my ILR and BRP in March 2013 and have fallen in love with this amazing country. In December this year, we booked tickets for a 3 week holiday to see my family in Michigan in June/July. Then disaster struck. In March this year, I lost my wallet with my BRP in it. I briefly considered keeping quiet and then claiming upon return from America that I had lost it there, however my conscience (and the fear that it would eventually be found in England) led me to do what I considered the right thing and I filed my application for a Replacement BRP.

I sent my application to Durham on 3 April and it was signed for on 4 April. The application fee was taken from my account on 6 April, and I enrolled my Biometrics on 18 April. Since then I have heard nothing.

To make matters worse, for the past 2 1/2 weeks, my sister has been hospitalised for complications related to her ovarian cancer, and the doctors can't figure out what's going on. My parents are in their late 70's and not in the best of health. I have to make this trip.

On Monday I filed for Return of Documents--specifically my passport--if my case could not be decided in the next 10 days. I also mailed an overnight letter to Croyden stating all of the above that was signed for at 7:45am this morning.

My question--I understand that if they return my passport, they will cancel my application. Does anyone know what will happen when I try to return from America? Will I be let in to re-file my application? Or will I have to remain in America and apply from there?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Jeb

You'll be fine.  This just happened to Jimbo so hopefully he'll be along.

You can have your application placed on hold for up to 28 days without it being withdrawn.  Return your passport to UKVI after you return and continue to wait (six months I'm afraid).

They'll let you re-enter.  They'll be able to verify you gave an outstanding application for a BRP and that you hold ILR.

I hope your sister recovers swiftly!

Time to consider citizenship...   ;)

KFDancer,

Thanks for your helpful post. It sounds as if I need to send another next-day post to Croyden!

Citizenship is my next step. We just needed to save for this huge trip first. Hopefully next summer I'll have my UK Passport (Maybe it'll be black instead of red by then?).

Cheers,

Jeb
