Decision Day (Update: Success!!!)
« on: June 02, 2017, 09:44:00 AM »
My wife is on course to receive our processed application sometime today in New York, and I can't recall ever feeling this sick with worry and anxiety in my life.

I know our wait hasn't been as long as other's, I know that most of us have had to live apart from our dearest partners for so long, I know that our situation is similar to anyone else's in this forum, and I know that I need to take my own advice and be strong in the face of this, but this is beyond agony.

A decision that could mean:
- I'm reunited with my wife again in a few days, letting us start our lives proper -  together as partners
- Another infinitely stretching month of being apart, followed by all of the angst, frustration, and anxiety all over again

...is flying through the air right now and about to land in the US.

Yes please, so many yes please. I will use this space to post our results as well. I'll give a full breakdown of everything to hopefully assist others about to apply.

I'm tracking the ups flight my package is on. Right now its somewhere over Canada heading to Philadelphia. I was toying with the idea that I can pick it up from the depot, however that could delay it a day and that's a chance I'm not willing to take.

I tried to get them to let me pick it up from the depot and they said no.  I'd just sit tight, that's the fastest you'll get it.  8)

Mine is currently out for delivery as well. I was supposed to have a doc appt and my brother stay in while I went out, but something came up and he had to leave. So I had to cancel the appt - no way I'm missing this. So much anxiety - it's like all of the anxiety I've experienced thus far has come together to form an anxiety explosion that I can experience all in one day.

It is currently raining where I am, so I'm taking that as a sign of approval - the universe is preparing me for my return to the UK.

(the things our brains do to comfort us... lol)

It's been delivered to her sister's address now, but my wife won't open it until she is back where she is staying in New York at around 10pm her time, or 3am for me.

Needless to say, I won't be sleeping until it's opened.

For the record, and for anyone that is considering this in the future--

Asking UPS to hold your package at your delivery address' nearest customer service center will **not** delay your package in any way.

You may get an inexperienced person on the phone who tells you they can only change to 'hold for pickup' once your package arrives in the United States, but this is actually not true. I called UPS again upon seeing the package was finally picked up in Sheffield, and told the person on the phone my situation, asking him for the absolute fastest way to get my package. He put an 'exception' in the UPS tracking system, noting that there was a "pending" change to pick up at the customer service center. He told me that, until my package landed stateside, this change would only show up as "pending."

Sure enough, when my package arrived in New Jersey, it immediately updated to show that it was "scheduled" for "pick up by customer." I was able to collect my package today, when the customer service center opened, without changing my delivery address (I no longer live there) or waiting for any extra processing.

UPDATE!!!

WE DID IT! WE WERE APPROVED! I AM BEYOND WORDS RIGHT NOW

I shall sleep and then post a full summary of our entire process, there are some interesting oddities in our application that I omitted to mention for fear of being told there might not be a chance off the bat and stressing (even more) until our decision arrived - I shall elaborate in due course!

Even though I found out about this forum and its amazing members after we had already submitted, I am so grateful to each and every one of you that provided insight, answered and overwhelming support.

From the bottom of our hearts - thank you all so much.

We'll be sticking around to answer any questions newcomers in future, or those wracked with the same doubts as us, might have to the best of our abilities.

Thank you all, so much, again :)
