Hello All (And request for advice)
« on: July 26, 2017, 01:39:05 AM »
Hello all,

I'm glad to have found this place.  My name is Ciaran, and I'm an American with a job interview tomorrow (the 26th) to teach at Oxford Brookes University.  I need advice, on a lot of things.  Most importantly though is getting a work visa.  My English friends say it is no problem, and shouldn't be much trouble, however, my investigations seem to indicate that may be typical English understatement.  I'm going to post this over in the visa thread as well, but any recommendations would be appreciated.  If I get the job, my hope would be to get indefinite leave to remain, as the job would more or less be a dream job for me.  I don't want to screw it up by getting the wrong visa, or anything like that.  Please help.  Thank you in advance.

I see you've been getting some good advice over in the visa forum but just wanted to say hello and welcome.  :)

Best of luck with the interview tomorrow.  :)

Congratulations!  :)  What did they say about sponsorship?

I'm going to work on that one next.  I accepted the job at the end of day for the UK.  (Currently working with a 7 hour time difference)  I hopefully will have an email soon from HR.  I plan on talking to the consulate here in Denver, and hopefully they can help.

It's really the sponsor that should be helping you with this. They will know what to do. Hopefully they bring you up to speed sooner rather than later to save you from worrying about it!
Set your alarm early to deal with the time difference!  :)

Congrats on the job :)

I plan on talking to the consulate here in Denver, and hopefully they can help.

They are not going to be able to help anything as they don't deal with visas.

Only the university can help you with this, because it's their responsibility to organise the visa sponsorship for you.

They will need to apply for and issue you with a Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) for the job. Once you have the CoS, you can then start the visa application process.

If they are unwilling to sponsor you and won't issue a CoS, then unfortunately you won't be able to take the job.

The university have to request  a "Restricted-CoS" to bring someone to the UK to work for them. The board to award these R-CoS, sit once a month on about the 11th and they look at employers who got their request in by the 5th of that month.

Once the university have got you a Restricted-CoS, the work visa the university will need to sponsor you on,  is called a Tier 2 General visa. You can read about it here.

Hello all,

I just wanted to post here, that my move is complete, except for my stuff which may be a few more weeks in arriving.  I start my new job tomorrow, and I think I have most of the issues sorted out for now.  Thank you again for all your help.
