Marriage In Scotland

Have I completely misunderstood the process for giving notice to the registrar this whole time?

You do not have to be in the country to give notice and you can do almost the whole process by post as long as one party shows up in person and that can be at the end of the process when you pick up the wedding schedule.

How did I miss this?

It doesn't matter to me personally as I'm already married but in my thinking that one party had to be in the country to give notice in gave incorrect information to someone but she kindly pointed out the whole thing could be done by post.

I knew it was different. I just thought one party had to give notice in person.

This makes getting married in Scotland so much easier for those coming over on a marriage visitor visa.

This is actually why we chose Scotland for our marriage location :) All was done by mail right after the application was submitted (to ensure we had enough time in case it was referred to the home office).
