ss 5 form (social security) question help
« on: July 28, 2017, 10:03:14 PM »
Hiya,

So now we have the BRP we are going to get our kids citizenship, passport and SSN done. More paperwork  ;D

Im filling out the SS form now. It says its self explanatory so I must be an idiot but can anyone help me?

Question 5 Citizenship. Am I putting US citizen or OTHER? She wont yet legally be a citizen when that form is signed so thats why im confused?

Question 11 As myself and my husband are acting on behalf of out child and my husband has a SS card do I have to fill out 12-13 with his? It seems very ood as his is already on there.

Thanks :)

I'm confused - your kid should already be both a UK and US citizen - she will have had US citizenship from birth.

You just need to register her birth with the US Embassy and apply for her passport and SSN at the same time

Im confused too lol. Yes we will be registering the birth and doing the SSN and passport the same day. I just didnt know if they might be listed as other because the werent officially a US citizen until the paperwork comes through after registering the birth. But I guess its all done on the day so they are officially a citizen. I think im just going crazy from paperwork recently.   :o

I'm not sure about the paperwork myself, but there are a few people on the forum who have done this so hopefully they can help :)

Yes, US citizen.  Technically they'll do the declaration that they are American, then review the passport and social security app.  They are really friendly and will help you with any questions you have.  You can always leave something blank.   :)
