First steps on arrival - correct sequencing
« on: July 31, 2017, 01:54:57 PM »
Hope it's ok to include this on this thread, it's more than one topic so was not sure where to put it.

I'm collecting my wife from Heathrow on Thursday night. *leaps around in excitement* Finally!! And I'm having a bit of an admin fest.

So here's what I am currently doing/ planning this end while she sells car, sends off shipping etc that end...

Name added to Council Tax, new joint account created being sent with her name on it in post tomorrow.

Added her to Phone Coop account so she has pay monthly SIM on arrival.

Double checked with current car insurance, won't insure her on US licence but will on provisional UK licence I know there are some that will, but I like Coop and have good deal on roadside assistance, so don't know whether we'll be better to wait it out. We only have one car anyway.

Added name to all other accounts - gas, elec. etc. Changed to her name for TV licence.

On Monday we will go to post office for the BRP

Go to estate agents for them to copy her passport and visa for rental agreement. She's already on the tenancy agreement as we all expected her to be here in June!

Go to bank with passport and council tax bill

Make appointment at job centre for national insurance number (needs BRP for this?) Or is that number on BRP - got confused reading different posts about that.

Then? Send off for provisional licence as BRP needed for that?

Is there anything else obvious I'm not thinking about that BRP would be needed for that would mean not to send off for provisional licence until after that?

Go clothes shopping cos her shipping won't arrive til mid-November and we were expecting everything to be A LOT sooner.

Then have a nice cup of tea!?

Don't forget to get her registered with your GP and dentist.  :)

Oh great, yes thanks Larrabee. Yeah I spoke to GP about it a year ago I think, that's an important one, and I'd forgotten! Health was one of the biggest issues with delay, medical insurance there. appointments with consultants and getting hold of her records,  plus she had all her prescriptions up to date, then had to do again cos it went on and on, and she had to work out which State to collect her prescriptions on her travels  Will she need BRP for GP? We'll do first anyway b4 the provisional licence. Dentist taking new NHS from end Sept checked last week... *chases tail*

From what I've read, they all vary slightly as to what they ask to see. Ours wanted to see the visa (before BRP's came in for out of country applications) best to ask the office manager.
I would check with the dentist what would happen if she had a dental emergency between now and the end of September, would she be seen? You don't want to leave that to chance!  :)

Thanks! Yeah that would be fine with dentist as would have to pay them as private patient until they open up again to NHS patients. I've got email from GP Practice Manager somewhere - I'll check :)

It will be before you know it.  Three more sleeps.... and then you'll long for a night of having the bed to yourself.   ;D

Do you ever do Rhymetime on a Friday?  If so, one day I'm going to drive down and bring my kiddos.   :)

Love that version! I sometimes have fun at our rhyme times and do the American version of songs. It's great when I have a lot of infants because it entertains the adults but doesn't confuse the kids.

I used to frequently send videos to my British friends asking them "HELP!  What in the world is she singing?", before her vocabulary was clear enough for her to just tell me.  The first song she kept trying to communicate to me that she wanted to sing was Wind the Bobbin Up!  Still a favourite of mine now.  I kept texting my friends saying, "She's doing Tina Turner hands but it's not Rolling Down the River!"

That might be the best description of Wind the Bobbin Up that I have ever seen.

Ha! Brilliant. One of my nephews is bilingual - English-German. His parents had to make notes for his nursery teachers when he was first producing language, cos so much depends on what you're saying being recognised and repeated back doesn't it :)

Make appointment at job centre for national insurance number (needs BRP for this?) Or is that number on BRP - got confused reading different posts about that.

I've read that the spousal visa BRP doesn't come with a NIN.

The National Insurance website says that you need to call to apply: https://www.gov.uk/apply-national-insurance-number

Then, you "may attend" a meeting; but from what I've read on here, it seems like most people attend a meeting (don't know how true that is).
