I passed!
« on: July 31, 2017, 03:05:59 PM »
Not to brag, but I just passed my practical exam and am now a full fledged new UK driver. First try! Oh what a relief. Especially since I had to take the theory test x 2 (Had no idea there would be a hazard perception test-yikes) And my first driving instructor told me not to worry about the rear view mirror "why do you think race cars don't have ear view mirrors- end quote. And my entry date is 22/08/2016 leaving me zero time to retake. Oh hallelujah!!!!

Congrats, Barb!

Time to reward yourself - I vote for driving gloves, stylish sunglasses and a silky scarf to let fly in the wind as you race around. 8)

Fantastic!  I'm quite worried about taking my exam. I find they drive very oddly here. Lots of riding the clutch, overuse of the handbrake, and the steering...  don't get me started. I'm very nervous.

Thanks everyone! I'm mostly a lurker but you have no idea how much you've all helped!

UK bound,  we wimped out and bought an automatic. I was nervous to the point of almost being sick. But somehow the rain stopped, and I felt calm. Good luck to you!

Do you have a restriction on your licence for automatics only?

Just wondering... that is what I was told previously.

Yes, am only allowed to be caught in an automatic. Fine by me! Glasgow and Scotland in general is some hilly country. (And insanely beautiful and friendly. They are even courteous drivers)

Late to read this but YAY! Congrats! :) Don't worry, It took me 3 tries to nail my theory but I passed my practical first time around! The theory is actually a lot harder than you think and I am not a good test taker in that I get distracted easily and have to force myself to slow down and read the questions properly (think I failed both times by like 1 or 2 questions that I probably didn't read properly because I was impatient and fidgety!).

Driving opens up a whole new world so it's definitely something to be excited about!

The worst part was that I passed the hazard test both times which everybody says is the hardest but failed by like ONE or TWO questions on the multiple choice the first two times! I think by the third time, I wasn't even irritated anymore and had a "whatever happens happens" approach so the lack of pressure I put on myself at that point helped lol
