First day and first forum site I have ever used.  Currently waiting for my UK Settlement Visa and been spending a lot of time on your site so figured it was only fair to contribute.  still finding my way around and have not figured out how to edit my profile, but will get there...Hello everyone and many thanks for all the assistance. 

Long story short...Married to UK citizen for years, have 2 kids together who are also UK citizens and I am a US citizen stuck here waiting for Visa.  Was given bad information by solicitor who said we should just buy house and apply there...UK told me to go back to home country...so now kids and wife at our house in UK and I am in Detroit.

So many people have suffered from bad legal advice it's truly shocking. At least now you're on the right path.

Yes, sometimes I think people don't believe us when we recommend not using a lawyer for a straight forward application but this sort of thing happens all the time!

Hey Detroit I'm near Madison, Wisconson and waiting for my spouse visa as well.  I think that is sad that they won't allow you to apply within the UK.  I hope things move very quickly for you.
