Boston North Shore to outskirts of London
« on: October 26, 2017, 05:31:53 PM »
Hello! I'm a 31 year old American woman married to a 34 year old Englishman. We met online in late 2009 and have since been in a long distance relationship. I am originally from New Jersey, and he came to visit me there in spring of 2011. Later that year, I moved to the Boston area with my family. From December 2011-January 2012, I visited him in London for the first time. I fell in love with it! I later had a 3 week visit and a 6 month visit. We were engaged in 2013 and finally tied the knot last May, here in the US. He was only able to stay for 2 weeks before going back to the UK, so it has been hard. The plan was to apply for my spouse via right after the wedding, but we hit a roadblock. He received a letter that his DLA (Disability Living Allowance) claim was ending, and that he needed to apply for PIP (Personal Independence Payments). Because he has a security job and is able to get to work on time, his application for PIP was rejected. He tried appealing and got rejected again. This left us with the need to meet the financial requirement that we would have been exempt from. His P60 shows that he made over £19000, but he earned less than £1550 a month in February and March. So, he made sure to work extra shifts these past few months so that he would have 6 months of bank statements and payslips showing he earned over £1550 a month these past 6 months. We are in the process of getting all our documents and information together, so that I can apply for my visa. So, I will be using this forum to ask questions about the visa as well as help others. Hoping to meet others in similar situations or who were granted their visas for the UK and living there now.

Welcome!! Another Fellow north-shore-ish area person over here (and around your age) :) You'll find that it's not as shocking of a change as others might have, so that's always helpful with the transition.

Are you going to be living in London specifically then?
My, how time flies....

* Married in the US and applied for first spousal visa August 2013
* Moved to the UK on said visa October 2013

* ILR applied for January 2019 (using priority processing). Approved February 2019.
* Citizenship applied for May  2019
* Citizenship approved on July 4th 2019
* Ceremony conducted on August 28th 2019

You won't be too far away from me then! About a half-hour drive to get into the first bit of Surrey.

Happy to chat if you ever feel like you need to talk to another North Shore-er :)
