I also have an older passport that is currently at my home in Oklahoma - my mother made copies of every page and sent it to me. Will that be enough for that one at least?

You either need to send the actual old passport or explain why you can’t send the actual passport. There is no need to send a copy of it.

Just explain that it is in the US and you can’t include it.

Okay.

To be honest, I am so stressed. I don't know what to do as I have to fly to Brussels next week for work (although maybe just my ID is okay for that since I will stay within the Schengen area) and then I was planning to go to the UK for some time before Christmas and go to the USA from there for the holidays.

Do we have any other options?  Do I have to pay for the priority before I go to the appointment or could I pay there in case I decide it is better at the last moment once I speak to them?

The only option would be to delay applying for the visa until after Christmas when you have finished travelling and don’t need your passport for a few months.

Or, cancel your travel plans to the UK and US and stay in Prague while your visa is being processed.

But still apply in Prague? And stay in Prague? Or could I then apply in Sheffield? Still not work but stay in the UK since I can for up to 3 months on the tourist visa....

You cannot apply in Sheffield because it is illegal to switch from a visitor visa to any other visa from inside the UK.

Your options:

- apply in Prague now and don’t travel anywhere until you have the visa

- wait to apply in Prague until after the holidays

- apply from the US while you are there... but you would have to stay in the US until the visa has been processed and your passport has been mailed back to you in the US

From the US, priority is currently about 5 weeks but this will slow down as we approach Christmas.  I think it's unlikely that people who apply now will have their visa before Christmas.  No idea about processing times from Prague.  The US is usually one of the faster countries to apply from.

We've just had a rush of approvals on the priority thread though.

Of the last 8 priority approvals from the US:
- 4 were processed in 20 working days
- 1 in 19 working days
- 1 in 18 working days
- 2 in 14 working days

14 of the 16 priority applications submitted in October have been processed and approved now, and 1 of the 5 November applications so far has been processed and approved.

Thank you so much. I was a bit unclear about some things but now it really makes sense. We will have to adjust our timeline a bit but I am so happy we found out now.

Thanks again!

Glad we could help clear things up a bit - if you have any more questions, feel free to ask :).

Oh, btw, a UK visitor visa allows you to come to the UK for up to 6 months (but no work allowed and no visa switching)... because it's not in the Schengen Zone, the UK has different immigration rules for visitors compared to the rest of the EU.
