Anyone bought BitCoin?
« on: November 23, 2017, 10:23:56 AM »
I've been reading a lot about BitCoin lately and I'm thinking of buying some. Anyone else got experience?

I've been watching it for something like 10 years now and it just goes up.  If I had bought then, I would have made a lot of money.  Seems like it's a bit trendy now so may not be the best time to jump on.

I've considered it, but I posted to my Facebook asking about it and the author of "Attack of the 50 Foot Blockchain" said:

"summary: you can make money in cryptos! but unless you're seriously that good as a trader ... you'll be the one the first guys make their money from. It's a zero-sum game of poker in a crooked casino."

It seems like an elaborate ponzi scheme to me.

This.  All day long!

I’m happy to miss out on the opportunity as is seems EASILY collapsible.

A couple of years ago, I considered taking a punt and buying 1 bitcoin when it was at £72.  But I was too lazy to set up the wallet, and I didn't feel like going to so much effort to potentially throw money away, so I didn't bother.  The next time I looked, it had gone up to around £115, and I decided that was too much money to risk. Yes, I'm laughing at myself now.

Now That BitCoin is something like £7000, JF KIMBERLEY could have two kitchens!

Seriously, why would you have to be a seriously good trader when all anyone has to do is buy the stuff and then hold on to it.  The current best advice is to do just that.

I guess I can see the argument for collapsible, but it's been around for a long time.  What would change?

BTW, sorry for writing everyone's name in all caps, I'm using a new keyboard and it seems overly enthusiastic about you all.

Compared to what he bought them for I’d say yes. But it’s nothing he’s continued to buy

I've been thinking of a business where I get really small amounts of  BitCoin (like £3) and put it on a piece of paper and then 3d print a plastic "coin" around it and then sell it on Ebay.  More of a novelty than a serious way to buy BitCoin.  But I just don't have room in my tiny house for a 3d printer.

Ha my husband is trying to convince me to get an 3D printer. They are so cool, but would we really use it after the novelty wore off?

My daughter got one of those 3d printing pens a while back.  She got all obsessed watching you tube videos where they made cool things but don't show how the stupid thing jams up every 5 minutes and the stuff you can build is fragile and useless.  She used it a few times and got tired, after convincing me to buy a giant spool of plastic thread. If we ever do get a printer, we've got enough plastic to put in it.

I have to agree with you, I'm not entirely convinced we would get much use out of it either.  You can steal my idea for bit coin coins, I  don't mind.

I just bought £5 worth of BTC, and paid £1 for the privilege.  I'm going to try to buy a coffee with it this afternoon.
