Shoe sizes
« on: December 28, 2017, 07:25:20 PM »
So... My feet haven't stopped being cold since I landed and I forgot to bring slippers. I was shopping on amazon and using some international shoe size converter charts and I'm left wondering, do UK women have abnormally small feet or am I converting wrong? I'm an 8.5 US and all the charts were saying that's an 8... But that's the largest most slipper sizing goes and in the US there's always at least one size bigger than me!

Thanks... I know I can just return if they're too big but I want cozy feet again now :)

Well, I wear a 6.5-7 American which is a 4-4.5 here in the UK.

I wear about 4.5 in the UK and that's about a 7 in the US.

An 8 in the UK is pretty big for women's sizes - you might be looking at men's sizes instead. Most women I know are between about 5 and 7 in UK sizes. I'd say a US 8.5 is probably a UK 6 or 6.5.

Conversion chart for Women's Sizes:
UK EU  US
2   35   4
3   36   5
4   37   6
5   38   7
6   39   8
7   40   9
8   41   10
9   42   11

Try to get to a Clarks store and have them measure your feet.  I’m a 4 but was a US 7.  I have very wide feet and I find shoes fit me much better here.   :)

You're probably a UK 6.5/7. I was a US 8 and I wear a UK 6/6.5, or an EU 39.

Yeah, that sounds much more reasonable and expected! The charts I found are clearly wrong. Thanks all :)

I am also an 8.5 in the US so tend to be a 6/6.5 here in the UK (39-40 Europe).  I have a heck of a time finding shoes here, though, because I am a solid half-size.  Clarks is about the only place I can find shoes that fit properly.

And those of us who are US size 10.5 or 11... get to wear the shoeboxes left from everyone else finding shoes that fit!  :(

That's only an 8. Do they not go up that high here?

I rarely get shoes that actually fit here. I'm a half size and so few brands do half sizes.

10.5-11 seems like it could be 8.5-9 from the posts here. I only saw a max of 8 when looking on amazon!

I will probably visit my favourite orthopedic shoe store when home cuz they have cute and comfy shoes that last forever. Slipper dilemma has to be solved before then though, hopefully this weekend I'll make up my mind. :)

You weren't looking for the larger shoes sizes though, you can select larger sizes on the left hand bar and they go through a size 10. Larger and half sizes are always a pain in the bum over here.

I went back to the US and got two pairs of shoes at Thanksgiving, a lovely pair of leather boots and an awesome pair of black leather ballet flats that my heels don't fall out of and don't kill my toes! haha.

I am a US 11 and I wear a UK 9.   Shoe shopping here annoys me no end, because I have long, narrow feet and apparently if you have large feet they're supposed to be wide.   ::)
I actually only buy shoes from Hotter now. Because they make long lengths that aren't wide fit and the shoes are comfortable and they last for ages too.   I have to buy my safety boots for work in the mens section of the local industrial supplies place.   :-\\\\
I just bought sheepskin slippers from Lands End because they have my size and have a proper good sole and coverage of the foot and  aren't just clogs.   Expensive, but I live in my slippers in the house.  The last pair I got was from Lands End and has lasted me over 4 years.

I feel you. I'm a solid half size and the full size up or down is too tight and hurts my feet or my heel moves around too much/there's a ridiculous amount of space at the toes!

I miss American shoes...

To be fair Next does half sizes but they don't have a lot of variety, same for Marks and Spencer.

Same! I found the cutest pair of shoes with cars on them at Sketchers in the UK but, of course, they didn't come in a half size and the ones on either side didn't fit at all. I was so disappointed.
