It finally happened!
« on: January 30, 2018, 08:34:29 PM »
So long and short of it, but today was exactly a year since I was on a plane because of my rejected FLR(M).

And today, I got my contract to start my full-time journo job, and I basically got home and broke down crying cause this has been a long process of grinding away with temp and contract jobs.

I guess this is more a way for me to reassure anyone on this part of the forum that it does happen. You will get a job or THE job. It literally just takes persistence.

In my case, five months of non-stop grinding, throwing my CV at anyone who looked like they might need help and taking loads of gig/temp/contract/(paid/unpaid)work experiences.

That's great! What kind of journalism?  I've always wanted to be involved with journalism and even worked on a newspaper a long time ago.

I've got a buddy who works with the group that exposed the Panama and paradise papers.  He's a real hero.

Nothing as glamorous as that I'm afraid. I'm doing business-to-business work with a magazine and their website. But I get to basically be as creative and have the opportunity to work with the other magazines there as well.  ;D

Dude I can't even imagine how cool that is. I only got that I went to high school with a guy who won a gold medal. Didn't know him, but I went to school with him

To be honest I think you could probably work for that group as well, I think it's a freebie sort of thing.  Not sure how he actually makes money.  I could be wrong.

That's funny, I've got another friend who's a TV journalist and I used to think it was likely that he works for an intelligence agency. Then I hung out with some more and I'm not so convinced now.
