Online Application
« on: February 04, 2018, 08:17:17 PM »
I've been filling out my online application for the initial spousal visa and I wanted to clarify something and make sure I was doing the right one. I selected "settlement -> settlement -> wife" and once I was going through it asked me about my employment status and lots of details regarding my job. I didn't see any questions like this on the old VA4FA they used to have online so now I'm a little nervous it's the wrong one!

No, that's the correct form :).

The problem is that the online form is generic and is pretty much the same for all visa types, so it has questions on it that don't seem relevant to a spousal visa because they're aimed at people applying for say, visitor visas, where you do have to show employment to return to.

So, you just have to fill out your employment details anyway, even though they cannot be considered for the visa.

And when it asks how long you will stay in the UK, you put either 'permanently' or 'indefinitely'.

Also, when it asks for parents' details, it means the applicant's parents, not the sponsor's, even though it reads like they mean the sponsor's parents.

Thank you! It's really much more confusing as a generic form than if it was by visa type. Entering my spouse's details, then my parents on the family page, then my spouses again on the sponsor page! I vote going back to the old form because that one seemed to make more sense :)

The old form hasn't been used in over 10 years - I joined the forum 11 years ago and you had to apply using the online form even then :P.

The only reason they kept the paper VAF4a form at all is because people in North Korea cannot apply online and they need to fill out the paper one (although it has disappeared from the website now, so not sure how people in North Korea are supposed to apply!).

Haha well I would like to go back 11 years then because I like paper forms much more than the generic online one!

Lol - yeah, it seems like every time they update the UKVI website, it gets more confusing!

Of course, you do still need to print and fill out VAF4a Appendix 2, so you can go to town on that paper form :P.
