Tortillas???
« on: April 19, 2018, 08:07:29 AM »
Does anyone know where I can buy corn tortillas in London? All I can find are flour ones which are great for burritos. But I want to make tacos and I prefer corn tortillas for that....not the crunchy ones, the soft ones. Any ideas?

You can find these at most grocery stores.  They are corn tortillas and pretty good.

These are as good as they get, but online:

Was going to say, you have to go to the Mexican section but you can definitely get them at Sainsbury's :)

Never seen these before!!  :o
Are they proper pure corn?  Or a corn & wheat flour mix?

Corn!  We have to be gluten free at our house so wheat is banned.   :D

They've been around about a year now.  We have found that they need to be warmed up in a skillet versus a microwave.  Just our preference.

Ahh!  I need to try those!  I haven't found a good recipe for making my own, so my press sits on a shelf being an interesting decoration.  *sigh*

I was really craving the taste of maseca one night so I just up and made my own corn tortillas! Its really easy if you have the flour - kinda like making pancakes. I dont have a special press, just use a rolling pin.

Mexica has the maseca, or amazon I believe does as well.

If you can find Masa, there are usually recipes on the bag for things like tortillas and tamales. Daughter has a Mexican-American friend who is supposed to be sending her mom's recipe for tamales - will ask her to get the tortilla one. I have a good one for flour tortillas, but not the same thing!
