tax e-filing for June 15 deadline
« on: June 11, 2018, 10:39:32 PM »
Hi I have lived and worked in the UK this past year and thought I heard I could file my taxes June 15 instead of April 15.

My first question - is this true?

2. Can I file online using TurboTax. I thought I heard they have updated it for expats.

3. If for some reason I miss this deadline ( dealing with work and visa deadlines right now too) can I do it later without a penalty?

Any other advice ??

Thanks so much!!

Not a tax expert but I think the answers are

1. Yes (I have filed twice in May with no penalty)
2. Yes (I have done so twice)
3. Probably not, so why not immediately send in an extension to October 15 to give more time.

Note that if you file for an extension and end up having not paid 90% of taxes owed or 120% of last year’s taxes then you will be subject to under payment penalties.
