London, here we come!!

Hello all!

In 3 weeks my husband and I are moving to London from NYC. This is a dream come true to me, but I never imagined how complicated everything is. We are also bringing our two dogs over, eventually this autumn.  We are originally from Europe, but have lived in the States for almost 30 years, so it's a big life change for us.

I've been getting lot's of useful information here, so I finally decided to join and hopefully one day I can provide answers to someone as confused and stressed out as I am at the moment

No, I don't think so. We are dual citizens, but since we are moving from the US, we had to apply for the ToR for example, if that's what you mean.

Welcome!  What is prompting your move?

My desire to move to London mostly .  I'm literally counting days, although especially bringing the dogs over is such a headache.  But I'm hoping after 3 months it'll all be behind us and we'll be happily settled..  Glad to be part of this community!

Are you British citizens, or are you citizens of a different EU country and are moving to the UK using your right to free movement within the EU?

Ugh, of course, sorry, my brain is oatmeal these days   We are Finnish and US citizens and my husband is working for a British firm.  So I guess yes, we are coming under  EU rules.

Ah, okay - the main thing to consider then is whether you will actually be able to stay in the UK once Brexit happens.. and that’s only 8 months away and I wouldn’t want you to pack up your lives and move to the UK and then find you have to leave again in a few months’ time.

Cruel? If Brexit comes down in such a way that Europeans who live here are actually forced to leave, you will WANT to leave as well. 

The UK is a great place to live because of it's diversity.  Europeans and all the other people who choose to live here are what makes it great.  Without us, the UK will really suck.  You'll be better off somewhere else.

Yes of course, I totally agree. I just was thinking very self centered, having to go through this process again so soon after just settling in.  Silly, thoughtless comment.

If brexit goes down that way I'd want to leave! I genuinely hope it doesn't happen at all honestly. When my husband and I started talking marriage long before that vote part of the draw was that the UK is in Europe. Once becoming settled here it opened a world of future economic and retirement possibilities, that likely won't exist after it. I hope they don't close those doors.
