Financial requirement documents question for Spousal Visa
« on: August 02, 2018, 04:05:06 AM »
Hi everyone,

So, I meet the financial requirement for the spousal visa through personal savings and I have far beyond the minimum amount required available to show in my savings. However, I am unemployed and have been for almost two years. Long story but I'll summarize. I was previously married and owned a plumbing company with my ex. I did the bookkeeping and office management. When we got divorced, that was pretty much the end of my involvement with the company. My savings comes from proceeds from the sale of the house I had with my ex. So, I have pretty much been living off of my savings. I haven't gotten a job because I met my current husband almost immediately after my divorce and have been traveling to and from the UK to spend time with him. And also because I knew once we were married I'd be relocating to the UK I didn't really stress about finding a job here in the US.

Is there going to be an issue with my being unemployed for a long time even though I have ample savings and I am also planning to start my own business once I am settled in the UK? Is it still enough to show just the 6 months of my savings statements or is there more I need to do/show?

Thanks in advance!

That's not an issue at all. You'll just show your 6 months of bank statements and give a declaration (on appendix 2) as to the source of your savings.

Hi Larrabee!  :)

Thanks for the quick response! Do you think they'd want to see any documents from the sale of my house or is simply stating on appendix 2 that that's where the money comes from enough?

Documents from the sale of the house would only be required if the sale had occurred within the 6 months prior to the application.

Ah, okay. Got it. No, the sale of the house was in August 2016.

Hi!

So... I went to my bank yesterday and they had to order the statements and are sending them to me through FedEx. They are official bank statements. Will I still need a letter from the bank stating they are authentic and/or do I still need each of the pages stamped?

Nope, if they are coming directly from the bank they are originals and you are good to go!  :)

Yay!! Ok, that's great! Now I'm feeling excited because it all seems to be coming together... But then the scariest part starts, right? The waiting...

The waiting is pretty scary, yes. But the scariest part of all is when the package arrives and you know you have to open it to find out the result!  :o

Yikes!! This is all so terrifying really. Because the worst outcome of anything ever would be being denied the right to live with my husband. It's hard enough just being apart while we take care of this visa. I don't want to even think about being denied. That's pure devastation.  :\\\'(

You will be fine!  :) But you know what? Even a refusal is not the end of the world. People who have been refused are given a letter stating what the problem was with the application. All they have to do is address the issues and re-apply. Yes it's awful and  horribly expensive but we have a few people who have been in that situation (mostly those who didn't find us in time) and they are happily living in the UK now!  :)

Well, that is comforting to know. I'll definitely run everything by you guys here in the forum before the final send off of documents. But you have all already been so much help and I am so happy that I found this site before I tried to do my visa on my own. I would recommend this to everyone!  :D

Hi again,
So I received a FedEx package from my bank yesterday. The savings statements they sent me look as though they themselves have just printed them from online. Kind of the same as if I had printed them myself. However, they did include a letter on company letterhead that reads:

August 2, 2018
RE: Nikia Herron (they spelled my first name wrong on the letter)

To whom it may concern,
This is to certify that the enclosed bank statements are the original C*** Bank Statements. Please call me @ 555-555-5555 if you have any additional questions.

Thank you

Do you think that letter is enough and will be acceptable?

That will be fine.  :)

But just check the dates to make sure they have sent you the time period that you need.

Awesome! Phew!

Okay, they sent me statements starting with Dec 21, 2017 - Jan 22, 2018 up to the most recent one which is dated June 21, 2018 - July 20, 2018. I'm planning to do my online application and get everything sent off by the middle of this upcoming week as long as I am able to get biometrics appointment quickly.  :)
