UK visa application from USA news????
« on: September 12, 2018, 07:04:41 PM »
Anyone seen this??

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/usa-apply-for-a-uk-visa/apply-for-a-uk-visa-in-the-usa

An applicant asks on another site if there application is now sent to New York? The website is ambiguous. They also called the 'help'line and was told info that agrees with sending the app to New York and that the 'customer service' person was literally just told that all USA apps to New York for entry clearance...

This website was released on the 10th. I don't want to cause confusion, but I am starting to doubt myself???
2004-2008: Student Visa
2008-2010: Tier 1 PSW

I think I saw something about this. Perhaps on the same site. Caused a great deal of confusion. If it is true and NY is taking over all applications from the 10th Sep then you think they would release some sort of memo announcing this? Perhaps Sheffield is bursting at the seams lol

I would be curious if applicants who applied after the 10th were instructed to post within the US.  There isn't really a paper copy of the application we can definitively check, so I'm wondering if it pops up at any point during the online application.

I just had a quick look... VFS still lists Sheffield as the processing center for US settlement visa applications.  ???

ETA:  Not that I would wholly trust VFS with... much...

Can any of these 3rd party agencies the HO uses be trusted? I’m still waiting for them to tell us you can only fly in on BA when coming to UK on a visa...

At first I thought it was a link for the non settlement visas but I had the page for settlement visas bookmarked and this is now the page it links to.

If you look at the address, it refers in the second line to the scanning hub so I am assuming that instead of sending apps to Sheffield, they are now scanned to there from NY. This is the procedure for most of the rest of the world, the applications being scanned from a local hub to Sheffield where the actual processing is done.

If this is the case, it’s coming back around full circle!

Back when I joined the forum in 2007, all USA applications were processed in either LA, New York or Chicago, and the city you sent your application from was determined by what state you lived in.

Then they changed it so all applications were sent to and processed in New York.

And then in March 2013, they moved settlement applications to Sheffield, but for the first few months, New York would forward on any settlement applications to Sheffield (mainly because the instructions on the UKVI website were wrong).

Looks like maybe we’re going back to that again!

It'll save a little money only having to mail the documents within the US!  :)

Who knows. Probably not, if they are going to be scanning everything and forwarding it to Sheffield... because people from other countries where they do the same still have to wait similar times.

You can’t compare what used to happen though because back in the day, you could pay about $100-150 for a visa expediter to deliver your application in person and the visa would be processed and issued with 24 hours... sometimes even within 4 hours. That hasn’t been allowed for a number of years though and I can’t see it ever happening again.

Gosh, I remember that.  When I joined the forum, you could still use expediters, and when I actually applied, settlement priority processing had recently replaced them.  I remember being a little POed because it was a $300 service for a 15 day turnaround, compared to the $100-150 the expediters used to charge for a 24-48 hour service.

So saw a chap post on another site who was also confused by this as he needed to post his docs and document was saying NY and everyone else including his lawyer saying Sheffield. He called up UKVI callcenter and the guy apparently said that all US visas for UK are now going to NY and they were briefed on it a few days ago. I know they are notoriously bad for reliable info but thought worth mentioning
